PESO had conceived the project on “Establishment of Fireworks Research & Development Center (FRDC)” at Sivakasi, being the hub of Fireworks manufacturing activities catering to 90% of demand of fireworks of entire Country. Government of India, under 10th Five-Year Plan, sanctioned the project during 2002-2003. The total project estimate is to the tune of Five Crores.

The R & D Center at Sivakasi has been designed to address the following requirements of the Fire Works Industry. 

• Testing of Raw materials as per  specification.

• Safety of the personnel involved

• Study of nature of chemical composition and contrivance.

• Mechanization of hazardous manufacturing processes.

• Development and standardization of products.

• Quality control and quality assurance.

• Development of environment friendly products.

• Market share of the industry in the international arena.

• Technical Resource Development.

• Human Resource Development.

Establishment of FRDC - Status :

The land for setting up  FRDC has already been acquired .
Construction of  civil  structures and creation  of necessary infrastructure are  in progress.
